A.J. Green expecting new contract before season?

A.J. Green might be expecting to have a new contract in place for the start of the season after Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas signed five-year, $70 million deals last week.

What It Means:

Green seemed willing to play out the final year of his contract, but the receiver might now be hopeful to get a new deal done before the season starts.

Green, who struggled with injury, was middling last season based on his analytics. His Reception Net Expected Points (NEP), which compares a player's production to expectation level, of 80.25 ranked 23rd among the 40 receivers with at least 100 targets last year. His per-target Reception NEP (0.69) ranked 20th. Bryant (127.79, 0.94) ranked fifth and first, respectively. Thomas (140.59, 0.76) ranked third and 14th, respectively.
