Carroll has praised Vannett as a blocker this offseason already, but he has now come away impressed with his receiving ability. "(We) knew that he could catch the ball and all that, but he’s a very natural catcher," Carroll said. "He shows the savvy and instincts that you hope a guy has. I know [quarterback] Russell [Wilson] has really clicked into him." Vannett has plenty of situational upside -- and perhaps some untapped receiving ability -- but he is a pedestrian athlete who caught only 19 passes as a senior at Ohio State.

In his final year as a Buckeye, Vannett's 19 receptions went for just 162 yards (8.5 yards per reception) and no touchdowns.
