Johnny Manziel pegged as backup quarterback entering training camp
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Johnny Manziel is the team's number-two quarterback entering training camp.
What It Means:
Manziel will be competing with newly acquired Josh McCown for the starting quarterback job, though Pettine indicated McCown has a sizable edge based on experience.
The Browns do not have a talented crop to choose from when it comes to quarterback this upcoming season. Manziel posted the ninth-worst Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) score last season among quarterbacks, and his competitor McCown registered the sixth-worst Passing Net Expected Points. However, McCown had the better Passing NEP per drop back at -0.09.
