Eric Rogers ahead of DeAndre Smelter on 49ers depth chart
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Eric Rogers is "clearly ahead" of 2015 fourth-rounder DeAndre Smelter on the depth chart, CSN Bay Area believes.
A 2013 undrafted free agent, Rogers has zero career appearances, but is getting a second chance after starring in the Canadian Football League the past two seasons. Despite his "clearly ahead" proclamation, reporter Matt Maiocco cautions "the real competition begins once the pads go on during training camp."
The two are competing to earn some of the targets that 2015 leading receiver Anquan Boldin left vacant when he departed to free agency. Boldin had 69 catches and 789 yards last year, and his 0.51 Reception Net Expected Points per target ranked 77th among wide receivers with at least 50 targets in 2015.
