Bengals' Tyler Eifert needs ankle surgery, out three months

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is expected to miss three months following a "minimal procedure" on his ankle, the Cincinnati Enquirer's Jim Owczarski reports.

What It Means:

Eifert originally suffered the injury at the Pro Bowl. It was thought at the time he was just dealing with a sprain, but he is still having problems nearly four months removed from the initial injury. The three-month timetable means he will almost certainly miss the entire preseason, and it is not a given he will be ready for Week 1. Already set to see a monster target share before this news, A.J. Green could set a career-high in targets. It also bodes well for Gio Bernard and rookie Tyler Boyd.

Eifert got a lot of his value from his trips to the end zone this past season as an unsustainable 18 percent of his targets resulted in touchdowns. Among tight ends with at least 40 targets, he finished first in Reception Net Expected Points per target. Even before this injury news, Eifert made for a sell-high candidate in dynasty formats.
