Jets haven't talked with Ryan Fitzpatrick in weeks

The New York Jets have not engaged in meaningful talks with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick in "weeks," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

The Jets and Fitzpatrick exchanged contract figures early on in free agency, but the two sides haven't made much progress since. New York added to the drama Friday night by selecting signal caller Christian Hackenberg with the No. 51 overall pick. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the plan is for Hackenberg to sit his rookie year before taking the reigns in 2017. If Fitzpatrick does sign with the Jets, he'll likely have to settle for a one-year deal.

After a productive 2015 campaign, it hasn't been a good offseason for Fitzpatrick. Among passers with at least 100 drop backs, he ranked 13th in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back.
