Broncos' DeMarcus Ware planning to play next season
Denver Broncos linebacker/defensive end DeMarcus Ware says he isn't planning to retire.
Ware is going on 34 and missed five games with injury this season, but he will keep going. "I got a lot of gas in the tank," Ware said Sunday evening. "I don't think about retiring. God still wants me to play, that's why I'm still doing what I'm doing." Headed into the final year of his contract, Ware is due $7 million, plus a $3 million roster bonus. With a number of key free agents, the Broncos may approach Ware about a restructure.
Typically playing opposite Von Miller, Ware remained highly effective in 2015, notching 7.5 sacks in 11 games. He terrorized Cam Newton in Super Bowl 50, tallying 2.5 more quarterback takedowns. Denver finished first in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
