Christian McCaffrey to yield Panthers' goal-line work to backup
The Carolina Panthers want to "delegate a lot" of running back Christian McCaffrey's short-yardage and goal-line work to a backup, tweets NFL reporter Albert Breer.
McCaffrey scored six of his seven rushing touchdowns from within the five-yard line last season, so this could potentially lead to fewer scoring opportunities if a backup emerges. That said, McCaffrey remains an elite fantasy option for 2019. The Panthers are considering fifth-round rookie Jordan Scarlett, undrafted rookie Reggie Bonnafon, and fifth-year back Cameron Artis-Payne for the short-yardage and goal-line role.
McCaffrey is the RB2 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models expect him to rush 217.4 times for 1,140.9 yards and 7.44 touchdowns, with 102.5 receptions for 879.1 yards and 5.83 touchdowns this season.
