Taylor Heinicke taking over as Panthers' starting quarterback for Weeks 16-17
Carolina Panthers quarterback Taylor Heinicke will start the final two games in place of Cam Newton (shoulder).
Newton has been battling a shoulder injury for weeks, so the Panthers have decided to shelve him with their playoff hopes all but over. Heinicke entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and is 3-of-5 for 56 yards in his career. He gets the Atlanta Falcons at home in Week 16 and the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome for the final game of the season.
The Falcons are surrendering the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season.
