San Diego vs. Denver Divisional Round Preview: Shootout at Mile High

In the third matchup this season, who has the edge?

Are the Chargers a team of destiny? A team that had just four wins after Week 11 now see themselves one game away from the AFC Championship. They watched the Ravens and Dolphins both lose their final two games of the regular season, aiding a wild-card playoff spot. Then, the Bolts went to Cincinnati in the first round of the playoffs and beat a team that was undefeated during the regular season in their home stadium.

And then there’s the “Eagles Correlation.” Folks are now connecting the dots to the fact that each champion since 2009 faced the Eagles in Philly's home opener. This year? That's right - the San Diego Chargers faced them.

But when you remove destiny, a game between the Broncos and Chargers seems one-sided. Denver finished with the better offensive and defensive ranking this season according to numberFire's Net Expected Points metric, and quarterback Peyton Manning broke every quarterback record imaginable en route to the best signal-calling season we've ever seen. The Broncos are nine point favorites against the Chargers this weekend as a result.

Team of destiny? We'll see about that.
