Thursday Night Football: A Defensive Struggle?

Will Carson Palmer actually throw more touchdowns than interceptions tonight? Probably not.

They’ve been disappointing quarterbacks.

Carson Palmer’s underachieving has been on-the-field related – his -24.70 passing net expected point (NEP) total ranks third-worst in the league, and his 11 interceptions are the most among all non-Eli Manning quarterbacks.

Russell Wilson, on the other hand, has been frustrating from a fantasy football standpoint. He’s been efficient, posting a top-10 passing NEP score, but through six weeks of football, he sits as the 13th-best fantasy passer. That includes two touchdown-less games and two more with just one scoring toss.

The Cardinals are a solid 3-3 despite their quarterback’s poor play; the team’s defense ranks 12th in the league according to our metrics. The Seahawks rank as our top team in the NFL, with a nERD score of 9.97 (click here to read about nERD). Like the Cardinals, the team has gone through the defense; Russell Wilson’s stat line doesn’t matter much to Seattle’s bottom line.

It’ll be a defensive struggle then tonight, right? Well, not so fast.
