2017 NFL MVP Race: The 5 Players People Should Be Discussing

The 2017 season has been a weird year in the NFL, and that extends to the race for league MVP. Who deserves the buzz?

With just three weeks remaining in the NFL season and one of the league’s best players -- Carson Wentz -- now lost for the rest of the year, the MVP race has taken center stage for some around the league.

This year’s race is intriguing because there’s been no clear, single frontrunner throughout the season.

There may be some stats or stories that point to a certain player, and the oddsmakers certainly favor one player in particular, but there’s been no standout performances to this point. Much like the overall team standings, there has been a lot of clustering among the top tier of players, with no one in particular separating from the pack.

With that in mind, let’s go through the cases for five of the top 2017 MVP contenders.

We’ll look at what they’ve done so far and what the outlook could be over the final stretch of the season. Much of this will be based off our in-house metric Net Expected Points (NEP).
