College Basketball Preview: Villanova Is Looking to Continue Their Reign of Dominance in the Big East

Can anyone stop Villanova from capturing their fifth straight regular season title?

In the first four years of the new Big East, the regular season has featured Villanova and everybody else. With a new year upon us, we once again have a handful of teams looking to end the Wildcats' reign over the conference. But like in past years, they will have to do something no team has been able to accomplish yet.

The Xavier Musketeers, who was the Big East's last remaining team in the NCAA tournament last year, by making it to the Elite Eight, figure to be fighting with 'Nova at the top of the league. Lead by senior guard Trevon Bleuitt, Xavier has posted a 42-30 conference record over the past four seasons, second to Villanova's 63-9. The third Big East team ranked in the preseason polls is Seton Hall, who has played Nova tough over the past four seasons.

Outside of those ranked squads, the Big East has five more teams (Providence, Butler, Creighton, Marquette, and St. John's) ranked in the top 51 of Kenpom's preseason rankings.
