Elfrid Payton reaches one-year deal with Pelicans

Free agent guard Elfrid Payton and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

What It Means:

There haven't been any salary figures released just yet, but with Jrue Holiday and E'Twaun Moore still in the picture, Payton could come off the bench next year. Either way, if Rajon Rondo does not re-sign with the Pelicans, Payton will likely take over his role as the starting point guard in a three-guard lineup.

Payton finished 2017-18 averaging 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. He posted a .447 effective field goal percentage, and his nERD of -2.2 ranked 441st among all players.
