Gregg Popovich would be 'surprised' if Kawhi Leonard (quad) returns to Spurs this season
According to ESPN's Michael C. Wright, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said he'd be "surprised" if forward Kawhi Leonard returns to the team this season.
Leonard's been out since January 13th. He had returned to play in nine games, but re-aggravated the tendinopathy issue in his right quad. He has since been medically cleared, but, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, "He has elected against returning to the active roster." He can reportedly play if he can manage the pain, but it appears that Leonard's opting to play it even safer. If he doesn't return, expect more Kyle Anderson and Rudy Gay, with LaMarcus Aldridge carrying the load offensively.
Our models project Leonard to average 18.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 32.1 minutes per game the rest of the year.
