Celtics reached out to Knicks about Marcus Smart trade
The Boston Celtics have reached out to the New York Knicks regarding a possible Marcus Smart trade, per ESPN's Ian Begley.
In an attempt to clear cap space for Gordon Hayward's max contract, the Celtics are shopping around Smart and others. The Celtics have contacted other teams and the Knicks' interest in Smart is not known at this time.
In 2016-17, Smart posted a -3.9 nERD, which ranked last of all Celtics players. He's due $4.5 million in 2017-18 and could become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2018.
