Carmelo Anthony wants to discuss buyout with Knicks

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has reportedly recently tried to engage management in talks regarding a buyout.

What It Means:

This is the first word that Anthony is considering leaving the Knicks, as all previous reports have indicated he would like to remain in New York. The front office also hasn't seemed very interested in the idea of buying Melo out of his contract. However, if the two sides do work out some sort of agreement, the Cleveland Cavaliers would be an early frontrunner to land him.

Anthony averaged 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 3-pointers in 34.3 minutes per game this season. His .535 true shooting percentage was a slight improvement over the past couple years, but he still finished only 269th in the NBA -- tied with fellow 2003 draftee Dwyane Wade -- with a -0.7 nERD in 74 games played.
