Rudy Gay officially opts out of final contract year

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has opted out of the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent.

What It Means:

On Monday, Gay declined his $14.3 million player option for 2017-18. It's likely he will seek more money and a long-term deal in the open market. At 30 years old, this could be the last big payday for the 11-year veteran.

Before rupturing his Achilles tendon in mid-January, Gay was averaging 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds through 30 games in 2016-17.
