Thunder could sign Russell Westbrook to Designated Player Veteran Extension
The Oklahoma City Thunder will be able to sign point guard Russell Westbrook to the Designated Player Veteran Extension this summer.
Russ will make $28.5 million for the 2017-18 season and then can tack on another five years, beginning in 2018-19. The total value of the extension would be $207 million. If Westbrook decides not to sign the extension, the Thunder will have to make a tough decision: do they allow him to play out the 2017-18 season and hope he re-signs, or do they trade him to avoid losing him for nothing?
Westbrook finished eighth in our player nERD rankings this year, with 15.1 on the season.
