Cavaliers' Mo Williams contemplating retirement
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Mo Williams is "strongly considering retirement," multiple sources told Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.
Per Vardon, a "desire to coach" and a "balky knee" seem to be the two of the biggest factors in Williams' decision-making. Even if he doesn't choose to retire, the Cavaliers may opt to cut ties with Williams by Wednesday's deadline, either via the stretch provision or by trading him to another team. Despite being due $2.2 million in 2016-2017, the 33-year-old veteran appears to be somewhat fond of the idea of going out on top as an NBA champion. Other than Kyrie Irving, rookie Kay Felder is the only other point guard on the Cavaliers' roster.
In 41 regular season contests last season, Williams ranked 91st with a -1.1 nERD. He averaged 8.2 points, 1.8 boards and 2.4 assists per game while logging 18.2 minutes a night.
