Mavericks were all-in on Hassan Whiteside

The Dallas Mavericks won't pursue free agent centers Dwight Howard or Bismack Biyombo after missing out on Hassan Whiteside, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

What It Means:

MacMahon suggests that the Mavericks will only have interest in Howard if his price tag drops below a maximum deal. With Timofey Mozgov landing a four-year, $64 million deal with the Lakers, it's clear that Dallas will have to open the wallet plenty to acquire a starting-caliber center.

Howard quietly had a strong year last season, ranking 46th in the league with a 3.6 nERD while his 20.2 percent total rebound rate was his best since leaving Orlando and his .604 true shooting percentage was his best since 2010. Biyombo was a machine in the playoffs, averaging 6.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 25.3 minutes per game in the playoffs. His nERD of 4.4 ranked him 48th among all players this past season.
