Raptors won't commit to max money for DeMar DeRozan
Toronto Raptors guard/forward DeMar DeRozan may not be receiving a max contract from the team, as general manager Masai Ujiri would not commit to giving DeRozan a top-dollar deal.
Although Ujiri made it clear the Raptors would like to re-sign DeRozan, the general manager refused to answer whether or not he was prepared to offer the 26-year-old All Star a max deal. "That question is for later," Ujiri said. The answer will be interpreted in a number of ways, but the reality is that there is no need for Ujiri to box himself into a corner by definitively answering one way or the other at this time. As is typical in free agency, the marketplace will determine DeRozan's value. Having said that, all signs point to a max deal.
DeRozan ranked 17th in the NBA with an 8.2 regular season nERD, but really struggled in the playoffs, sporting a 46.2 True Shooting Percentage and a 14.2 Player Efficiency Rating.
