3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 2/9/17

Wesley Matthews has a tough matchup tonight against the Utah Jazz. Who else should you avoid on Thursday's short NBA DFS slate?

In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?

Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it only takes one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference from winning or losing your contests.

Wesley Matthews, SG, Dallas Mavericks

FanDuel Price: $5,800

Wesley Matthews has been playing more small forward in the Dallas Mavericks' small ball-lineup, but he's a player to avoid despite facing a Utah Jazz team on the second half of a back-to-back.

The Jazz are allowing fewer than 0.7 FanDuel points per minute this season to small forwards, and Gordon Hayward has been a strong defender from that position -- he's holding opposing players to 41.2% shooting from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc.

If he and the Jazz are locked in on defense, Matthews will see a sharp decline in production from his last three games, where he's averaged 33.3 FanDuel points.

Frank Kaminsky, PF, Charlotte Hornets

FanDuel Price: $4,900

After producing 32 FanDuel points per game over his past three contests, it looked like Frank Kaminsky was finally starting to figure things out.

The Charlotte Hornets sophomore has been starting for Cody Zeller over the last seven games, but news broke earlier on Thursday that Zeller will be returning to the starting lineup.

This moves Kaminsky back to the bench and while he should still continue seeing a fair amount of court time, it won't be enough to return value on his increased price tag from the last two weeks.

Joe Ingles, SF, Utah Jazz

FanDuel Price: $3,700

Joe Ingles has been given a big opportunity to start for the injured Rodney Hood, but he has yet to take advantage of it, averaging just 14.5 FanDuel points over his last four games.

Alec Burks has been a big reason why -- he's scored double-digit points in six of his last nine games while splitting minutes with Ingles by coming off the bench.

Burks also isn't a great DFS option on Thursday, but as long as he's healthy and getting minutes, he'll continue sharing time with Ingles with Hood on the sideline. This is a situation you'll want to avoid entirely tonight.
