3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 2/6/17

Dwight Howard squares off with Rudy Gobert tonight in a matchup you'll want to avoid. Who else should be left off your roster?

In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?

Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it only takes one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference from winning or losing your contests.

Dwight Howard, C, Atlanta Hawks

FanDuel Price: $7,400

It probably goes without saying, but don't roster Dwight Howard tonight. He and Rudy Gobert are set to square off in a tough battle for the both of them, but defintely more for Howard.

Gobert is holding players he defends to just 47% shooting within six feet of the basket, and with pretty much all of Howard's shots originating from that distance, it's not going to be a nice night at the office for Howard.

In his last two meetings with Gobert, Howard was held to an average of just 19.3 FanDuel points per game, and in their seven career matchups, Howard is averaging just 11.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

Robert Covington, SF, Philadelphia 76ers

FanDuel Price: $6,400

Robert Covington looks like he will play tonight, but even with the return, it's hard to see him reaching value against the Detroit Pistons.

According to our defense versus position matchup chart, Covington has the fourth-toughest matchup among small forwards tonight, and our models only project him to score only 26.2 FanDuel points.

His price is a little high still at $6,400 as well. With the Pistons allowing fewer than 0.7 FanDuel points per minute to small forwards, lay off Covington in his return to action tonight.

Tristan Thompson, C, Cleveland Cavaliers

FanDuel Price: $5,400

Tristan Thompson has been all over the place when it comes to fantasy performance. He has two games with 40-plus FanDuel points and two with fewer than 20 FanDuel points over his last four.

Our models project Thompson for only 22.5 FanDuel points tonight over 29 minutes, and a big reason for that is his matchup with Marcin Gortat and the Washington Wizards.

According to our matchup chart, the Wizards rank sixth in fantasy points allowed to centers, allowing just 0.92 FanDuel points per minute to the position.
