Jose Martinez still out of Cardinals' lineup in first game back Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Jose Martinez is out of Thursday's lineup against the Chicago Cubs.
This will be a third straight benching for Martinez, who has apparently fallen out of favor due to poor defensive play. Matt Carpenter will once again start at first base for the Cardinals while Jedd Gyorko mans third.
Offense isn't the problem for Martinez, who averaged 9.9 FanDuel points per game before the break, while slashing .297/.363/.476 with 13 home runs, 35 RBI, and 56 runs scored across 355 plate appearances.
