Tigers' Miguel Cabrera needs season-ending surgery

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera needs season-ending surgery for a ruptured tendon in his left biceps.

What It Means:

Cabrera suffered the injury on a swing in the third inning, and an MRI after the game revealed a torn biceps tendon. With Cabrera out for the rest of the season, John Hicks could take over as the Tigers' every day first baseman, while James McCann would subsequently get some more time behind the plate.

Cabrera will finish the season with a .299/.395/.448 batting line, with 3 home runs, 22 RBI, and 17 runs scored over just 157 plate appearances.
