Giants place Brandon Belt (appendix) on the 10-day DL
San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (appendix) was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday.
What It Means:
Belt underwent emergency surgery on Friday to remove his appendix. The first baseman is expected to be out for a few weeks as he recovers. Pablo Sandoval is starting at first in his place on Saturday. Alen Hanson was brought off the DL in a corresponding move.
Belt has hit .307 with 11 homers in 226 plate appearances this season.
