Phillies release Cameron Rupp
The Philadelphia Phillies released center Cameron Rupp.
Rupp totaled 30 home runs over the past two seasons but his batting average dropped from .252 to .217 in 2017, which is a career-low since he became a full-time major leaguer. That said, the 29-year-old catcher will likely be picked up by a club in need soon. The Phillies will enter the year with Jorge Alfaro and Andrew Knapp as their primary backstops.
Prior to release, numberFire's models projected Rupp to bat .223 with 13 home runs, 36 RBI, and 39 runs scored in 347 plate appearances this season.
