Cardinals' Adam Wainwright fires two scoreless innings in relief

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.

What It Means:

Wainwright fanned one and didn't allow a baserunner in two straight perfect frames. Overall, Wainwright pitched 5 1/3 innings in the series, allowing 3 hits and 0 walks while fanning 7 -- pretty darn impressive considering he threw just three relief innings at the tail end of the regular season.

Wainwright battled his way back from an Achilles injury just to be available out of the bullpen for the Cardinals. They sure used him, going to their ace in three of the four games. He'll have the entire offseason to prepare to resume his starting role, and Wainwright will be one of fantasy's top arms again in 2016. He hasn't posted a FIP over 3.11 since 2008.
