Mariners' Robinson Cano undergoes sports hernia surgery

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.

What It Means:

Cano played through the injury a good chunk of the season, but this means he won't miss any game time. Cano's timetable for recovery is six weeks, so he should be more than ready for opening day.

If Cano was suffering with the injury in the second half, it didn't affect his play. He pushed aside a brutal first half by posting a .331/.387/.540 slash with 15 home runs after the All-Star break. His hard-hit rate, however, dipped to 29.7 percent in the second half, so the second half may not be sustainable heading into 2016.
