Nationals' Daniel Murphy (knee) won't be ready by Opening Day
On Wednesday morning, Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy (knee) said he will not be ready for Opening Day.
Murphy underwent microfracture surgery on his knee last October, so it doesn't come as any surprise that he'll miss the beginning of the season. Assuming his recovery continues to go smoothly, he should still be able to return at some point in April. In the meantime, Howie Kendrick is expected to get most of the starts at second base.
Last season, Murphy slashed .322/.384/.543 with 94 runs, 23 home runs, and 93 RBIs over 593 plate appearances.
