Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson (head) lifted as precaution
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson (head) was lifted from the fifth inning of Thursday's Game 1 ALDS contest with the Texas Rangers as a precautionary measure.
Both of the game's starting third basemen have exited early, with Texas' Adrian Beltre (back) also leaving the contest. Donaldson appeared to be injured in the bottom of the fourth inning when he was attempting to break up a double play at second base. The All-Star came in with a high slide, and Texas second baseman Rougned Odor's knee hit him in the head.
This is obviously a big blow to the Blue Jays, who inserted Cliff Pennington in for the likely American League MVP. With Game 2 slated for Friday afternoon, Donaldson's status in definitely in doubt.
