Yordano Ventura starting Game 1 of divisional series for Royals
Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura will start Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series on Thursday against either the New York Yankees or the Houston Astros.
The team also announced that Johnny Cueto would start Game 2 with Edinson Volquez going in Game 3. Their opponent will be decided in Tuesday's American League Wild Card game in New York.
This was the right choice as Ventura was filthy down the stretch. After the All-Star break, he averaged 9.69 strikeouts per nine innings on his way to a 3.32 xFIP. Cueto struggled over that stretch as he only struck out 6.08 per nine innings with a 4.38 xFIP. As long as Ventura can limit his walks, he should be set up for a fine postseason.
