Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) to be ready as reliever if Yankees advance
New York Yankees pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) threw a simulated game Monday and is confident he'll be available as a reliever for the American League Divisional Series should the Yankees advance.
Eovaldi hasn't pitched since September 5th because of the injury. He'll join an already stout bullpen, likely in a long-relief role.
Eovaldi would be a mighty interesting option out of the pen. As a starter this year, his average fastball velocity was 96.7. He wasn't able to convert that into a high number of strikeouts at 7.06 per nine innings, but he did sport a solid ground-ball rate of 52.2 percent.
