Ichiro Suzuki hoping to return to Miami next season

Ichiro Suzuki said Sunday that he's hoping to return to the Miami Marlins next season.

What It Means:

An extra season for Ichiro would give him an additional shot at reaching 3,000 hits in Major League Baseball, a feat made even more impressive when you toss in the 1,278 hits he had over nine seasons in Japan. Ichiro is currently 65 hits short of 3,000.

Ichiro's age-41 season -- his first with the Marlins -- didn't quite go as planned. He finished with a .229/.282/.279 slash, 1 home run, and 11 stolen bases over 438 plate appearances. With the emergence of Derek Dietrich, the returned health of Giancarlo Stanton, and the late-season effectiveness of Marcell Ozuna, Ichiro would likely serve a smaller role in the future if he does decide to come back.
