Edwin Encarnacion

Indians hopeful Edwin Encarnacion (ankle) is available for Game 5

On Monday night, Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said "I don't know yet" but "I hope" that first baseman Edwin Encarnacion is available for Game 5 against the New York Yankees.

What It Means:

Prior to Game 4, Francona said that Encarnacion was "working towards" being available in a pinch-hitting role. He hasn't played since spraining his right ankle in Game 2. The Indians will continue to wait the injury out, in hopes of having Encarnacion's bat for a pivotal Game 5. Carlos Santana will more than likely play first base as Michael Brantley draws the start at DH.

On the year, Encarnacion is 0-for-2 in a pinch-hitting capacity. But, the 34-year-old has slashed an impressive .269/.374/.462 with 4 home runs in 91 career postseason plate appearances.
