Giants shut down Madison Bumgarner for rest of season
San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner will not make another start this season, per NBC Sports' Alex Pavlovic.
Manager Bruce Bochy has officially shut down the 28-year-old ace. There is no injury for Bumgarner, but the veteran has dealt with injuries this season and Bochy feels that he has simply pitched enough in 2017. With the Giants far removed from the race, Chris Stratton will start Friday while Johnny Cueto pitches Sunday.
Bumgarner finished the year 4-9 with a 3.94 FIP and 8.19 strikeouts per 9 innings. For 2018, he has a $12 million club option that the Giants will surely pick up as soon as they're able.
