Tigers expect Mikie Mahtook (groin) to be ready by weekend

Detroit Tigers outfielder Mikie Mahtook (groin) is expected to be "ready by Saturday at the latest," according to manager Brad Ausmus.

What It Means:

Mahtook has been sidelined since last Friday due to groin discomfort, but it sounds like he's making progress towards a return. JaCoby Jones got the start in center field on Thursday versus White Sox-right hander James Shields. Alex Presley is in left and batting second.

Over 101 games this season, Mahtook has posted a .276/.328/.452 slash and .780 OPS with 11 home runs, 34 RBI, 47 runs scored, and 5 steals in 351 plate appearances (PA). numberFire's models project him for a .250 batting average in 44 PA over the remainder of the year.
