Yankees looking to start Greg Bird (back) on Friday
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said on Wednesday that he would look to start first baseman Greg Bird on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
If that holds, Bird would make his return after a three-game absence and face the Orioles' Gabriel Ynoa. According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Girardi also said that Bird is "an everyday first baseman" and that he just has to stay on the field to make the impact that the club expects him to make. Today, Chase Headley is playing first base today against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Having gone just 3-for-24 so far in September, Bird is projected for 3 hits, 2 walks and 2 RBI over 18 plate appearances the rest of the way.
