Angels acquire Tigers' Justin Upton
The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Now 18 games back in the AL Central, it's become quite clear that the Tigers are in full sell mode. With the move, they will clear the remainder of Upton's $22.1 this season and the $88.5 million he's owed over the last four years of his deal. While it's true that Upton can opt out after this season, the Angels wanted the veteran's bat regardless, so says Rosenthal. Detroit gets pitcher Grayson Long back in the deal.
So far this season, Upton has accounted for 28 home runs and 94 RBI while sporting a .379 wOBA, his highest since the 2011 season. The 30-year-old should still operate in an everyday role so our projections of 6 home runs, 17 RBI and 117 plate appearances are still relevant despite his new home.
