Johnny Cueto diagnosed with mild flexor strain, Giants optimistic
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto has been diagnosed with a mild flexor strain.
It's similar to the injury that sidelined teammate Matt Cain for two months earlier this year, which is notable with less than two months left in the season. The Giants remain optimistic that Cueto will pitch again in 2017, but without any postseason plans, they likely won't force the issue.
Through 115 2/3 innings this season, Cueto has turned in a 4.59 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 20.4 strikeout percentage with a 6-7 record (19 starts).
