Nationals not naming closer yet
Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo would not name a closer on Monday, according to the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo.
After adding Brandon Kintzler from the Minnesota Twins, Rizzo said that the club would use the last portion of the regular season to determine a closer. In addition to Kintzler, Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle will compete for the role down the stretch.
While Madson leads the trio with a 2.27 FIP, Doolittle brings the most shutdown power, with 12.65 strikeouts per 9 innings this season. In his own right, Kintzler's 9.4% home run per fly ball rate is the lowest of the potential closers.
