Jorge Mateo included in Athletics' haul from Yankees
The Oakland Athletics acquired infield/outfield prospect Jorge Mateo, outfielder Dustin Fowler, and starting pitcher Jameson Kaprielian from the New York Yankees in exchange for starting pitcher Sonny Gray and $1.5 million in international spending money.
Mateo is expected to join Double-A Midland as one of the newest members of the Athletics' organization. A consensus top-100 prospect entering the year, the 22-year-old speedster has proven his versatility with defensive appearances at both shortstop and center field.
Mateo slashed .258/.318/.438 with 8 home runs, 37 RBI, 65 runs scored, and 39 steals in 437 plate appearances (99 games) this season between High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton.
