J.P. Arencibia drives in six runs as Rays blowout Orioles
Tampa Bay Rays catcher J.P. Arencibia drove in six runs and had three hits Tuesday as the Rays blasted the Baltimore Orioles, 11-2.
One of Arencibia's three hits was a home run as he finished 3-for-4 on the night. The homer was his first of the season. This was only Arencibia's sixth game in the majors after replacing Curt Casali, who hit the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
The 29-year-old Arencibia has always had pop, and this year has been no different. Prior to his recall, he had 22 home runs at Triple-A and a .216 isolated slugging. The issue has been making contact and plate discipline, as he struck out in 30.9 percent of his plate appearances in the minors while walking only 3.7 percent of the time.
