Matt Carpenter (quad) out for Cardinals on Monday

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter (quad) is not starting on Monday night versus the Colorado Rockies.

What It Means:

Carpenter will be held out after he was lifted from Sunday's contest after the first inning due to a tight right quadriceps. It's not expected to be a significant concern and the Cardinals are likely just erring on the side of caution. Luke Voit will start at first base on Monday night and bat sixth versus Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela.

The 31-year-old veteran is slashing .248/.378/.449 with 14 home runs, 46 RBI, and 56 runs scored in 400 plate appearances (93 games) this season. numberFire's models project Carpenter to turn in a .264 batting average with 5 homers, 17 RBI, and 16 runs scored over 131 plate appearances for the remainder of the year.
