Edinson Volquez expected back for Marlins after break

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edinson Volquez (knee) is expected to be "ready to roll" after the All-Star break, manager Don Mattingly said Thursday.

What It Means:

Volquez was lifted from Wednesday's start due to a left knee injury, but it was a precautionary measure for what Mattingly said is "something that he's had in the past." It remains possible that the Marlins place Volquez on the 10-day disabled list if they want to free up a roster spot for the weekend. The 34-year-old right-hander is 4-8 in 17 starts this season while recording a 4.19 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 20.4 strikeout percentage over 92 1/3 innings.

numberFire's models currently project Volquez for a 4.33 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 16.2 strikeout percentage over the remainder of the season.
