Yankees worried Greg Bird (ankle, knee) may not return in 2017
The New York Yankees are concerned that first baseman Greg Bird (ankle, knee) may not be able to return this season, manager Joe Girardi said.
Bird continues to feel soreness in his foot and ankle, complicated by fouling a ball off his right knee during a minor league rehab assignment earlier this month. Chris Carter was recently outrighted to Triple-A, but might need to return soon; Tyler Austin is also dealing with hamstring bruising which could land him on the disabled list.
Our models project Bird to hit .225 with 3 home runs, 11 runs, and 11 RBI in 103 more plate appearances this season, if he can get healthy.
