Mets' Steven Matz (elbow) fires a perfect five-inning rehab start
New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz (elbow) dealt five perfect innings on Sunday in a rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas.
50 of the 73 pitches he threw in the start were strikes, and he fanned eight while allowing no walks or hits. His injury has kept him sidelined for the beginning of the 2017 season, but with a stellar rehab outing like this, he looks to be nearing a major league return.
numberFire's models project Matz for a 4.66 ERA, 18.4 percent strikeout rate, 7.1 percent walk rate and 1.35 WHIP through 108 innings pitched in 2017.
