Sonny Gray spectacular in Athletics' sinking of Marlins
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Sonny Gray fanned 11 batters while allowing just one run over seven innings in a 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Gray was hit only three times in the matinée while the one run occurred as the result of a wild pitch in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old right-hander has 19 strikeouts in his last two outings (13 innings) after failing to exceed four punchouts in any of his first three starts. Gray's next trip to the mound will be on the road in Cleveland versus the Indians.
Across 29 2/3 innings this season, Gray has twirled a 3.34 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 23.3 strikeout percentage. He's 2-1 in five starts after Wednesday's win.
