Tigers will look into signing recently released Melvin Upton
Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila said Sunday that the club will look into signing recently released outfielder Melvin Upton Jr to see if it makes sense.
Upton was released by the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend after the club was unable to find a trade partner. A move to the Tigers would make sense as Detroit is hurting in the outfield with the injury to J.D. Martinez. It would also reunite Upton with his younger brother Justin.
The older Upton belted 20 home runs with 61 RBI's, 27 stolen bases, and a .238 batting average in 539 plate appearances with Toronto and the San Diego Padres in 2016.
